Education: 5 things to be proud of in the Rockford Region
It is an exciting time on the education front in the Rockford Region. Here are five don’t-miss headlines!
- Starting in 2016, students can earn engineering degrees in Rockford through a partnership between Northern Illinois University and Rock Valley College.
- RVC is also partnering with Saint Anthony College of Nursing to offer a seamless route to a nursing degree in Rockford at RVC’s new Health Sciences Building, which broke ground this summer.
- School leaders from across the Midwest are coming to Rockford in October to learn about Rockford School District 205’s academy model and Alignment Rockford’s efforts during a two-day Alignment Institute.
- The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford expects to expand residencies and wants to allow students to complete their first year of studies here.
- Rockford University reported record-high enrollment in fall 2015.

150 jobs expected: ‘Terrific boost’ for the Rockford Region
ConAgra Foods plans a $15 million expansion at its cookie-making plant in South Beloit, which will nearly double its employment in the Rockford Region. ConAgra Foods, which employs 210 people there, expects to hire 150 people through spring/summer 2016. “The variety and number of manufacturing jobs will provide a terrific boost to Winnebago County for many years,” Board Chairman Scott Christiansen said. “The relationship between ConAgra Foods and all of the partners in the community has been extremely positive.”

The event, conducted at Chicago Rockford International Airport, was designed to introduce the Rockford Region’s robust supply chain to AAR, which is partnering with RFD to build a $40 million, 24/7 facility to service next-generation, wide-body aircraft.
