13 WREX received a Regional Emmy Award from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences for ”Outstanding Achievement for News Programming – Morning Newscast: Smaller Markets (51+).
The Regional Emmy winners were announced Saturday night at the 58th Annual Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards in Downtown Chicago. WREX received at total of three nominations in three different categories. This is the second straight year 13 WREX has received a Regional Emmy for its morning newscast.
“Winning this award for the second straight year is such an incredible honor for our station,” said Josh Morgan, News Director at 13 WREX. “Our staff dedicates their time to providing the best local news coverage in the market and this award is a testament to their hard work. This is truly a team award.”
13 News Today Meteorologist Morgan Kolkmeyer was nominated in the On-Camera Talent – Weather Anchor category for her work as meteorologist and co-anchor of 13 News Today.
The final nomination for the 13 WREX team came from 13 News Weekend Anchor Reuben Jones, whose story on two families who lost loved ones in the April 9, 2015 tornadoes, was nominated in the News Specialty – Weather category. News Director Josh Morgan and Assistant News Director Audrey Moon also received nominations for that story.
13 WREX was the only local station in the Rockford television market to win a Regional Emmy Award and to receive multiple nominations.
