Revised Great Lakes Basin Railroad Route Avoids Boone County, Will Run West of Rockford
The Rockford Register Star reported that the revised route proposed by the Great Lakes Basin Railroad route will not include Boone County and will instead run through Winnebago County, near the Chicago Rockford International Airport.
“We listened carefully to what people had to say about our proposal,” said Mike Blaszak, chief legal and administrative officer for Great Lakes Basin Transportation. “There was obviously a lot of opposition from the Boone County area. We believe our new proposed route minimizes the impact on farmland and keeps the railroad in areas that are better suited for rail activity.”
