ROCKFORD, Sept. 3 — Alignment Rockford and Rockford Public Schools will host the Alignment Institute-Midwest Region October 19 and 20, 2015. Community and school district leaders from communities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois will visit Rockford to learn more about the College & Career Academies of Rockford. The Alignment Institute-Midwest Region is based on a national conference, Alignment Institute, which hosts prospective and emerging communities that employ the Alignment model to support public school systems. Leaders from Rockford Public Schools, Alignment Rockford, and Alignment USA decided to host the conference after receiving dozens of inquiries from communities around the Midwest. “The Alignment Institute gives communities an opportunity to see a system-wide approach that helps students develop a plan for their future and see a place within their own community where that future exists,” stated David Carson, Executive Director of College and Career Readiness, Rockford Public Schools. The two-day Alignment Institute will include presentations, site tours of high schools, and opportunities to speak with Academies faculty, staff, administration and community members who support them through engagement in the schools. “This provides an experience for other communities to deepen their understanding of the Academies model. It explains how an organization like Alignment is critical to providing sustainable community engagement,” stated Bridget French, Executive Director, Alignment Rockford. Delegates from Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) also will be present at the conference. Ford NGL provides the framework for academies implementation throughout the nation. Rockford is one of only 17 communities in the nation to be designated a Ford NGL community. ABOUT ALIGNMENT ROCKFORD
