Rockford Region celebrates opening of Woodward’s Rock Cut campus in Loves Park

LOVES PARK, July 1 — Woodward held a ribbon cutting today at the 450,000-square-foot Rock Cut campus with more than 1,500 in attendance, from employees to business leaders to government officials.

Sagar Patel, President, Aircraft Turbine Systems, greeted the crowd at Harlem and Perryville roads, telling team members “this is your day.”

The aerospace and energy industry leader has made a $250 million investment on 70 acres at Harlem and Perryville roads. Their first Loves Park campus is at 5001 N. Second St.

Around 2,200 full-time members will be working at Rock Cut and Loves Park campuses by 2021 thanks to the company’s robust growth.

The state-of-the-art flexible facility was designed “from the inside out” to support the processes so that “parts never stop. It fosters an environment of innovation and collaboration with the ability to adapt to changing business conditions and requirements.

Facts and figures:

The Servo Valve Clean Room:

• is the size of a football field
• will increase production from 5,000 to 35,000 valves per year by 2021

Construction:

• Concrete for RCC, over 22,000 cubic yards, could pour a sidewalk from Rockford to Chicago.
• 3,400 tons of steel used; would equal enough paper clips to circle the earth three times
• Wire/cable installed at RCC could wire over 1,000 homes.
• 7,500 gallons of paint—would cover a 6-foot privacy fence 30 miles long
• 315,000 man-hours worked to build this campus
• High-efficiency HVAC design and lighting installed; uses natural light in the manufacturing and office areas
