Public Policy Priorities
To support the primary role of the Rockford Area Economic Development Council – “to help employers retain and create quality jobs” – the RAEDC identified four public policy areas that can improve the economic health of our community. The areas, communicated to us by business leaders through the RAEDC Voice-of-the-Customer surveys, result in the following priorities:
1. Improved Workforce Development - Prepared workers who have the skills and attitude to succeed, particularly for workforce replacement or growth. We encourage our local, state and federal governments to expand capacity of prospective employees and to provide incentives to businesses that provide training opportunities for their employees.
2. Coordinated Regional Economic Development Plan - A coordinated regional development plan that results in an area prepared for economic development. We are pleased to be a part of the Rockford Area Transportation Planning Study and support inter-governmental agreements that result in competitive infrastructure.
3. Reasonable Business Taxes and Fees - A legislative environment that provides a level playing field, so businesses can compete both regionally and internationally.
4. Customer-Focused Local Government - Seamless, competitive services that are delivered in a predictable process environment, from the first call to follow-up.
Areas of Concern
In addition, business leaders said that Rockford Public School District 205’s reputation and Winnebago County’s crime rate negatively impact our community.
Call to Action
The RAEDC supports elected officials, policy makers and community leaders as they work toward legislation, programs, and solutions that achieve these priority goals and address the areas of concern. A strong economic development environment will help ensure economic security for our community.
