SwedishAmerican to Invest Nearly $36 Million In Two New Multi-Specialty Clinics

SwedishAmerican - A Division of UW HealthSwedishAmerican is pleased to announce it is expanding its healthcare services with the construction of two new state-of-the-art clinics in Rockford. At a news conference this afternoon, SwedishAmerican President & CEO Dr. Michael Born shared that properties have been purchased to construct new clinics on North Main Street and another on Bell School Road, near the Regional Cancer Center campus.

The new clinic on North Main Street will allow for expanded services and added physician practices. It will feature OB/GYN, pediatrics, family practice and internal medicine services, with a total of 60 patient treatment rooms and 16 providers. The clinic will sit on approximately four acres with a total of 40,000 square feet at a cost of $11.5 million.

The new clinic on Bell School Road will offer nearly 100 clinic rooms, 25 providers and feature OB/GYN, pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine and endocrinology services. Additionally, the clinic will offer ancillary services including lab and medical imaging. The clinic will sit on approximately six acres, with a total of 70,000 square feet at a cost of $24 million.

“SwedishAmerican is thrilled to announce our expansion plans and continued growth of our SwedishAmerican Medical Group,” says Dr. Born. “SwedishAmerican is committed to caring for the community and these two new facilities will do just that, helping to meet the needs of our patients, families and residents in the area.”

Both clinics combined will add approximately 500 union labor construction jobs and dozens of new permanent healthcare jobs. Construction of both clinics is expected to start this winter with completion by early 2019.

“Meeting the health care needs of our community and providing convenient access to high-quality healthcare is our number one priority,” says SwedishAmerican Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Don Daniels. “SwedishAmerican is always thinking about our patients and planning ahead for the future.”

“This is fantastic news for the City of Rockford and our entire county,” says Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara. “Investments such as these new clinics help our residents stay healthy while having access to quality healthcare services. This is yet another win for our community thanks to SwedishAmerican.”

In April, SwedishAmerican announced a $130 million expansion plan to construct a new women’s and children’s tower while modernizing its main hospital campus in downtown Rockford. Additionally, the health system announced plans to expand its healthcare services with the construction of a new medical office building on Rockford’s southwest side and plans to break ground this month.

For construction to move forward on the Bell School Road clinic, SwedishAmerican recently filed documents with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.
